The Villages FL – Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney are scheduled to visit The Villages this weekend. Newt is planning on being at Barnes & Noble in The Villages on Sunday at around 1:30pm and Mitt Romney is planning on being at Lake Sumter Landing on Monday after 5pm. It should be exciting with both leading candidates visiting The Villages to campaign!

The Villages FL – Brownwood continues to take shape as construction goes full bore! I couldn’t help but drive by to check out the action today! Since the last time I was at the construction site was in Mid December I thought I’d just drive by and try to document the progress. Here you can see the barnstormer theater taking shape with some other outbuildings! The barnstormer theater will house multiple screens and will be a big draw once Brownwood opens to the public. Also under construction is the Palace Hotel and a branch of Citizens First Bank. Brownwood will be a fantastic benefit to residents of The Villages FL and we’ll enjoy watching it being built right before our eyes!

There are some things that I wasn’t even aware of that were really interesting. As an example did you know that there are Golf Cart Scavenger Hunts in The Villages? Well there’s one on Jan 27th at Coconut Grove Recration Center. Did you know that there’s a Backgammon Club that meets at noon Fridays at Chula Vista Recreation Center? Whatever your passion there’s something for you!
The newsletter also has informative columns about everyday life in The Villages. This latest version has The Villages Fire Chief providing information about the Villages fire department and the plans that are in place to wrap up construction of The Villages seventh fire station!
There is even information about the fire departments proactive steps to provide an even better response by paramedics to cardiac arrest patients in need by providing an EKG link between paramedics and emergency room personnel to determine if patients should bypass the ER and head right to a cardiac cath labs for a stent. The Villages has a very high survival rate (44%) for cardiac arrest patients but is looking to improve that even further.

It’s tax time again and in The Villages residents have a great opportunity to utilize the services of AARP’s Tax-Aide.
AARP’s Tax-Aide is a free service that is available to residents of The Villages to help prepare income tax returns free of charge. Since the Internal Revenue Service has kicked off the 2011 tax filing season there are plenty of AARP Tax-Aide volunteers in The Villages FL to help residents with their tax returns beginning February 1st.
The AARP Tax-Aide volunteers will only help with federal returns, but that’s okay since Florida has no state tax.
Each year according to the AARP website 232,000 Florida taxpayers come to Tax-Aide each year for the free assistance. You can find AARP Tax-Aide locations by visiting this site AARP TAX-AIDE LOCATOR
Tax-Aide volunteers receive plenty of intensive education to help them prepare for tax season. Beginning around the 1st week in October and running through January, Tax-Aide volunteers receive extensive training. The training involves studying and testing to make sure that the volunteers thoroughly understand the new tax codes and procedures. When it comes to tax returns Tax-Aide volunteers in The Villages are even able to file electronic returns directly to the IRS.
When filing tax returns electronically some taxpayers can see refunds as quickly as 10 days from filing. If a taxpayer chooses direct deposit then it’s hassle free and fast.

In addition to the AARP Tax-Aide taxpayers in The Villages can also turn to the IRS’s program called Free File. This is available on the IRS website at IRS.GOV/FreeFile
Anyone with combined income of less than $57,000 in adjusted gross income in 2011 can utilize the Free File program. A majority of Floridians can utilize the Free File program since Florida does not have a state tax making it very easy to utilize. If looking for a fast refund use Free File and then select direct deposit.
