The Villages FL – Polo is a great spectator sport

Polo in The Villages FL – Polo is a great spectator sport! You can hear the thundering sound of horses racing down the field just thinking about the sport.
There is no place better to enjoy Polo than in The Villages Fl! The venue here in The Villages rivals any place in Florida or for that matter the country.
The Villages polo club is located off of Buena Vista Boulevard just North of CR 466 in The Villages. Matches are held on Sunday and the cost to attend is $5 for residents.
Polo is a sport typically consisting of four riders each and their mounts. The object of the game is for a rider to use a mallet to strike the ball into the goal area. It’s a fast paced sport and each period of play is called a chukker that lasts 7 ½ minutes. Each game typically consists of six chukkers . The large grassy fields are 300 yards long.
Players are rated based on a goal rating between minus -2 to +10. Beginning players are about a minus -2 while professionals and the best players could reach +10. There are only around 12 +10 players in the world. Players goal average here in the US average a 0 (zero) rating. The higher the goal rating the better the player.
The polo season runs for 10 weeks in the fall and then again in the spring. The season usually begins in March and October. There are usually tournaments held in late March as well, such as the 8 goal tournament.
There is a large Polo Booster Club in The Villages with approximately 1,000 members. The membership dues for the Polo Booster Club are $10 for annual dues, which covers the cost for certain events such as the tailgate party for the season opener, player meet and greets and other social functions. There are also educational classes such as Polo 101 and Polo 102.
