Roundabouts are used widely in The Villages to control traffic!  

Many new residents are unfamiliar with roundabouts since they are not commonly used in other parts of the country.      Many people are confused by roundabouts when they first encounter them but they are very simple to navigate and they definately keep traffic moving smoothly except for the occaisonal fender bender.      One great aspect of the roundabout is that even when there is a fender bender it’s not at high speed and the vehicles are moving in the same generally the same direction which lowers the intensity of any collisions.

Sumter County just recently held a workshop that resulted in simplified signage that should make it easier for people to understand how to use the roundabouts.

As you can see from the picture above it clearly shows how a driver should use the right lane to turn right or head straight through the roundabout. Drivers should use the left lane to move straight through the roundabout or to continue around to make a left turn.

Thanks to Sumter County Board of County Commissioners the new signs will help new Villages residents move throught The Villages with a better understanding of how to use our unique roundabouts.
